King Ugrasena ruled the Kingdom of Mathura. His son was Kamsa. By nature he was wicked, narrow minded and for selfish needs could harm anybody. Devaki was his sister who had got married to Vasudeva. To this couple was born Lord Krishna. Legend has it that Kamsa heard a cosmic voice while driving the chariot, taking his sister and brother-in-law in a procession, which prophesized that the eighth son of Devaki (his sister) would slay him.

Guru Purnima Celebrations at the Ashram 

“The one by whose Grace one attains direct knowledge of the Self is known by the name of Guru,” declares the Guru Gita. Guru Purnima is celebrated each year as a tribute to the Guru, the one who dispels the darkness of ignorance. This year, devotees from around India and the world travelled to the Dehradun Ashram to pay their deepest respects to the two great Self Realized Souls, Shri Swamiji and Shri Babaji, themselves Guru and disciple.

Shri Babaji's Guru Purnima Message

Blessed children of the Divine,

Legend says, once the great Adi Shankara was camping in the pilgrimage town of Kashi also known as Benaras. In and around several Kapaaliks were living. 'Kapaalik' means voodoo people who practice religious witchcraft to create fear amongst people by creating non-existent myths. Adi Shankara’s teachings became very popular as he tried to create awareness of the truth of existence and the myths as non-existent nonsense. The Kaapaliks were unhappy as they were losing devotees whom they treated as clients giving them monetary benefits.
