Question: If God is all pervading and in all of us, why do we need to go through a Guru? Isn't attachment to the Guru then unhelpful, like any other attachment?
Babaji:
This is simply recommended because if the Guru is Self-Realized, then God and the Guru are the same. The Guru can therefore guide you towards God, because they are the same. Thus Saint Kabir sings in his famous song, "Guru and God are both standing in front of me. Initially there is some slight confusion in the mind - to whom should I bow down to first? But immediately the mind becomes clear - 'I shall prostrate to the Guru first, because it is only through the Guru that I can now see God.'"
Thus the Guru will help you to get connected back to God. Attachment to the Guru is not a worldly attachment - it is devotion, love. And it is through this attachment that one will follow the Guru's instructions; then one will not be questioning all the time.
Question: Can one love the Guru without attachment?
Babaji: Yes.
