Question: Can you practice this technique of meditation with the eyes open?

I would not recommend it. Perhaps just for a little time in the beginning, but not for too long. For instance, you might find that some dust particles come into the eyes, and could damage the eyes. I myself did very, very briefly. For instance before going to sleep at night, I would look at Swamiji’s photo for a little while, then close my eyes and sleep.
