Question: I have some injuries. When I sit in meditation sometimes when I have tension in my mind, I crunch into my injuries even though they are very old, it’s a habit. I guess it's also a question about the nature of awareness. In the technique of meditation that you teach, we are focusing here, between the eyebrows, but I'm still aware of everything in the body. Sometimes it helps me to relax, but I kind of cheat a little bit, I deflect my awareness away just to make myself more comfortable.

The idea of this technique of meditation is that gradually the mind becomes totally concentrated at one point when it loses all imaginations it will go introvert in itself. That is going towards the Self ultimately. Then you will be overcoming all the consciousness and pain of the body at that stage. That is the idea of giving the practice of this technique. While doing this practice, until the concentration has been achieved it will be aware of the body. The pain would be there.
Becoming unconscious of the pain or overcoming the pain are two different things. Suppose I lose all consciousness of the body still the pain would be there. The disability or any problem would always be there. That needs to be attended to in a different way. Through meditation itself it won't go. If you practice the meditation, you would gain the ability whenever there is a pain you can remove your mind and at least not feel that pain whereas you can be aware of that pain to overcome that pain in someway.
There won’t be any conflict if you practice such things. The mind would go introvert if it becomes at one place. At that time it need not be aware of the body, because you have to become aware of your real Self. It is like a river’s journey. Just now you are aware of the physical body, you are aware of the world. You are giving it more attention than is necessary. That is why in the meditation practice you withdraw this attention because the mind cannot have any third way, it has to be either in this world or it is withdrawn and goes back to the Self, giving you the Self Realization. Either it has to be in the movie that is going on, as you keep watching, your mind gets sucked into it, so you always identify yourself into the movie all happiness, unhappiness so you are binding yourself to the happening of the movie, unknown to you, unnecessarily. In the same way, the soul’s consciousness has come to this world. If you withdraw that it will come back to your Self. You will get Self Realization. You realize, “I was only watching this movie. I was not at all involved. There is nothing I have to be afraid of or fear, nothing to cause me to be unhappy”. Thus this meditation will enable you to go back to regain the Self Consciousness.
