Question: When the mind has been completely purified, does one experience pure consciousness as a state completely independent of the brain or any physical reflector? Is it only pure awareness which can recognize itself as itself? If so, what then is the role of the brain, after the mind has been completely purified of all impressions? At this stage, is mind only the Self, and not reflected by the brain? Why would pure awareness then stay in touch with that individual brain?
Babaji:
When the mind is completely purified, it would have been absorbed into the Self, completely independent of the brain. It is Supreme Peace, pure awareness of Existence. Only this pure awareness can recognise the Self, its own Self, because there are no more imaginations, but still it exists as Pure Consciousness or Awareness. Concerning the role of the brain, now the tables have turned upside down. As long as the imaginations were there, the brain was behaving like a Master, making the mind to dance to its tunes. Whatever it reflected, the mind took in good faith and believed it as the truth. But now the brain has become the servant and mind, because of getting absorbed into the Self, is the Master, using the brain to help others to go on this path and get realized. It uses the brain and is fully aware that whatever is being done is simply an imagination.
Just like teachings of the Guru, the Self is aware that it is using the brain to imagine, to teach for the sake of understanding only and it is not the total truth. The Guru, the Self is just giving clues to inspire the student to pursue seriously, until the student gets rid of all the imaginations. The actual truth is only when you experience it. Remember what Sage Vasishta tells Rama at the end of the discourse, “Hey Rama, whatever was told by me all these days as discourse of the Ultimate Truth is also an imagination.” Just be there and experience the Truth. Nothing else is the Truth. The Yogi's Truth is the SELF and not reflected by the brain.
Question: Do these same principles of watching and purifying the mind happen in daily activity if one is alert to the Self while performing activity? Or is activity a time of gathering more impressions which then need to be released during meditation? There are times in activity when I notice everything becomes very still and perception becomes "grainy", as if unreal and dissolving. At these times is the mind being purified or are we taking in further impressions, even if subtle?
Babaji:
The same principle of watching and purifying the mind does happen, if one is alert. The same principle works on the path of sevotion (bhakti marga) also, surrender. After putting efforts, when results come, they shall be accepted as the Divine's wishes. The mind shall remain quiet without brooding, missing, or expecting anything, or making analyzations and judgements. In the same way, when the Guru is physically around also, if one can simply accept what Guru teaches and do not bother to analyze what Guru does. This normally happens naturally, when one falls in love with the Guru unconditionally. If the mind simply accepts, the same principle works.
