Question: When you die, when you are out of your body and dead, do you still have mind?
Babaji:
The Yogi shall not have that mind. An ordinary person shall have a mind. When death happens, the brain dies, the brain stops functioning but the mind is still active, because of what is called its 'acquired habits'. All imaginations are acquired as imprints by the mind. You see, just like when you are alive in the body, your mind is in touch with the universe through the reflections of the brain. The brain itself is in touch with the universe. It gives you the consciousness of this world through the nervous system and it keeps reflecting. Mind catches everything and it recognises the existence. It analyses, "This is good, this is bad, this is mine, this is not mine," and in the process it makes a judgment and absorbs imprints.
So when death occurs to the brain, the mind temporarily gets kicked off the brain, but based on its acquired habits, meaning the intensity of thought, it assumes the next birth. Whatever you are born in this life, it is because of your previous life's intensity of thought. Based on that you had been able to become a human being, an animal or any creature. When a Yogi does tapas, the mind has been totally merged into the Self, so there are no such acquired habits. All these things have been cleansed. So when death occurs to the physical body, the Yogi is already one with God, has become one with God and will remain in God. So the Yogi won't be assuming any birth. That is what is called liberation or nirvana. This is the recommended goal for everyone. This is the abode of supreme peace and happiness.
