Question: There is a teaching that enlightenment means becoming light, that when an enlightened Master dies he does not leave his dead body behind. He dematerializes his body; the body becomes light and disappears. If the body is left behind then he is not really enlightened. May I have your thoughts or views regarding this.
Babaji:
Enlightened does not mean that one becomes light. Enlightenment means one becomes enlightened about the existence of the Self as Immortal Soul which is atman. Just as you cannot show your mind to anybody and explain its form or shape, simply based on thoughts you recognize the mind. When all the thoughts get cleared in tapas and samadhi happens, this mind merges into the Self, which is the ultimate truth of the mind. You cannot imagine it's form. It is the Supreme Consciousness of Existence. That is what a Yogi becomes. Dematerializing the body is simply a myth and not truth. Anybody who tries to dematerialize the body cannot be a Yogi or Enlightened. When the Self is Supreme Consciousness, where is the idea that one has a body and it has to dematerialize. All are false notions by people who are simple bookworms and have not experienced the Truth. The body shall go in its own way. Even Rama, Krishna, and great realized Souls like Adi Shankara, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Ramana Maharishi all left their physical body as normally as anybody else, because enlightened ones shall not have any body consciousness.
