Question: For so many years I have been reciting mantras. Recently I have been through a lot of medical problems and have severe physical pain left.  Will reciting mantras enable me to overcome the physical pain?

Well one thing we need to realize is that the mantras are given to be chanted to overcome all the mind's imaginations. The mind's Ultimate Truth is God. If the mind is on the world then it will automatically be caught up in dualities - this world is made of dualities always. When the mind is concentrated, for instance by mantra chanting, then it goes inwards towards God.

A separate issue is the body's experiences. Please be assured that I do not mean to make light of your experiences. The body's experiences are separate from the mind, though the sensation of pain itself is actually experienced in the mind only. We need to understand that it is not that mantra chanting will take away the physical pain directly - for that a medical treatment will be required. Yet one may find that when chanting the mantra, because the mind's attention becomes so much onto that, then the mind's attention to the physical pain is less. If one is still in pain, it is because the mind's attention is not concentrated 100% on the mantra. Therefore practice with more concentration and then you can overcome the mental agony.
