A Trip to Badrinath
For the past few years many devotees have requested Shri Babaji to bless them by accompanying them on a pilgrimage trip to Badrinath.Their wishes got fulfilled this year.
On the 15th of September, five days before Shri Babaji's birthday, about 60 devotees from different parts of the world gathered to accompany Babaji for this trip to one of the most sacred pilgrimage spots in India.
Badrinath is situated at a height of above 10,000 ft. Guarded on either side by the two mountains Nar and Narayan, the Neelkanth peak dominates this famous valley. Its ice-clad pinnacle forms a majestic backdrop to the colorful Badrinath temple nestled on the sides of the Alaknanda River. Lord Vishnu is the presiding deity here. According to eminent historians, the temple had existed well before the period of the Mahabharata. Later some zealots are said to have destroyed this ancient temple and thrown the idol into the Alakananda River. Legend says that when Sri Adi Shankracharya in His digvijaya travels visited the Mana valley, He discovered the deity in 'Narada kund', the hot water spring which emerges just above the river. Through divine inspiration He reinstalled the black stone idol of Lord Vishnu, seated naturally in padmasana (lotus pose). This is the only idol of Vishnu in this yogic pose.
